A growing collaboration between the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto and the JN Bank Canada Representative Office is delivering tangible benefits, enriching the lives of the Jamaican diaspora in Canada.

Consul General of Jamaica in Toronto, Kurt Davis, said the collaboration is providing the diaspora community with easier access to resources and programmes that support their integration in Canada, while maintaining strong ties to Jamaica.

Describing JN Bank as โ€œa staple in the community,โ€ and โ€œa legacy partner,โ€ Mr Davis, emphasised that the partnership supports the Consulateโ€™s mission, built on three core pillars: providing essential services to the Jamaican community, strengthening diaspora engagement and promoting trade and investment between Jamaica and Canada.

โ€œWe have been very fortunate to have the support of JN. Theyโ€™re always very interested to support our community and our diaspora,โ€ he said while underscoring the consulateโ€™s commitment to going beyond traditional consular services.

โ€œResources are not as widely spread as weโ€™d like and in some cases where we try to offer support, we might need the kind of community assistance from the diaspora and our partners to do some of the things that we need to do,โ€ he said

A key highlight of the joint efforts, he noted, is the consulateโ€™s โ€˜Jamaica Xโ€™ outreach series where the Consulate teams up with JN Bank and other partners to bring a range of services directly to Jamaicans in select locations across the Greater Toronto Area.

โ€œJN is one of our biggest supporters with the outreach activities in the communities, offering services and support, and this is so vital to us because our community likes to see whatโ€™s going on around them. And even though weโ€™re here in Canada, having that brand identity that you know, trust and love, really helps our diaspora big time so weโ€™re always happy to partner with JN,โ€ he noted.

Already, that initiative has reached Brampton and Hamilton, with plans underway to expand into Durham County in the coming weeks.

โ€œIt has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the community where theyโ€™re saying โ€˜weโ€™re happy you could come out here to where we areโ€™. They could access JN Bank services, sort out their various issues right there on spot, and then run over to our team and complete their passports and citizenship applications, then run over to one of the other partners for something else. They are able to do all of that in one convenient space and time and I think thatโ€™s something that theyโ€™re really loving and appreciating,โ€ said CG Davis.

The Consul General also expressed interest in expanding the collaboration with the JN Bank Canada Representative Office, noting that the strong alignment in mission and values makes it a natural partnership.

โ€œWeโ€™d love to find ways to build that out as much as possible. We want to ensure that JN stays present and flourishing in this community because they are a lifeline for so many people who are here,โ€ he noted. โ€œWeโ€™re always for Jamaica. The more we can empower our people here and get them to grow and thrive the better it is for them and Jamaica in so many ways,โ€ he added.

For Monique Broughton, Chief Representative Officer at the JN Bank Canada Representative Office, the partnership reinforces JN Groupโ€™s deep-rooted role in the diaspora. The JN Bank Canada Representative Office, which serves as a bridge connecting Jamaicans in Canada with financial services domiciled in Jamaica, offers financial solutions including savings products, mortgage assistance and advisory services designed specifically for Jamaicans abroad.

โ€œWeโ€™re really happy about the collaboration and JN has always stood with Jamaicans, wherever they are,โ€ she said. โ€œThis partnership is definitely aligned with our mantra, โ€˜Weโ€™ll Help You Find a Way!โ€™ What the consulate is doing here is helping Jamaicans to find a way, so weโ€™re on board with that and working with the consulate allows us to serve our community in a more connected, impactful way.โ€
