Masterbuilders Focus on Cutting Accident Risks
Outside of battlefields, construction sites are one of the most dangerous working environments, Chris Hind, general manager, JN General Insurance Company, told more than 400 attendees at the Incorporated Masterbuilders Association of Jamaica (IMAJ) 2016 seminar, held at the Jamaica Conference Centre on November 2.
Some of the issues leading to accidents are the non-provision of safety equipment to workers, the lack of training of workers in health and safety procedures and the lack of health and safety inspections on sites, Mr. Hind stated.
The Masterbuilders held a vibrant discussion on the systematic implementation of health and safety regulations on construction sites during the Seminar. Their focus on ‘Safety in Construction: Lowering Risks, Increasing Value’, aimed to inform contractors about health and safety programmes that can be implemented to reduce construction accidents.
Others addresses to the Seminar came from Dr. Horace Chang, Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Gowth & Job Creation; Humphrey Taylor, Managing Director, Taylor Construction and Ricardo Cisneros Wandemberg, Civil Engineering Lecturer, Pontifica Universidad Catolica de Ecuador.
