  1. Select a PIN thatโ€™s easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess. Always avoid the obvious โ€“ your telephone number, date of birth, etc.
  2. Memorise your PIN. Do not let anyone else know or use your PIN and avoid writing it down. If you absolutely must write down your PIN because you cannot remember it, never keep the paper in your wallet or purse. Try to disguise the PIN in some way, for example, by keeping it within a record of other information.
  3. Alwaysย enter your PIN yourself, rather than allowing a โ€œhelpfulโ€ merchant to do it for you when youโ€™re making a purchase. No legitimate business will ever ask you for your PIN.
  4. Never give out your PIN over the phone, Internet or mail.
  5. Complete transactions only when and where youย feel secure.
  6. When conducting transactions at an ABM or a debit purchase, even if the device you are using has a visor, use your hand or body to shield the keypad when you enter your PIN.
  7. When a transaction is complete, put your card back in your wallet and take your transaction record.
  8. Shred or otherwise destroy your transaction records when you no longer need them.
  9. Change your PIN from time to time, just in case.
