FAQs

What is the ETA?

The Everyday Transactional Account (ETA) is a deposit account designed to assist you with managing your daily spending. It supports salary deposits and everyday transactions such as utility payments, phone top-ups, grocery shopping, and more.

So, it’s not a chequing account. Does this mean there are no fees?

You are correct. The ETA is not a chequing account. There are no monthly service charges or maintenance fees. However, minimal transaction fees may apply for specific services, such as ATM withdrawals or interbank transfers.

What other payments can I use this account for?

You can make any payments from this account. In fact, we advise that you make all payments from this account and place what you intend to save in a savings account.

When at the ATM or point-of-sale what do I choose: savings or chequing?

Remember, your ETA is not a chequing account, so choose savings whenever transacting at the ATM or point-of-sale.

I already receive my salary and make payments from the account I have. Why do I need an ETA?

Having an ETA helps you separate what you spend from what you save. This will help you to better manage your savings and you will be able to better track what you spend on.  Plus, it’s best to keep only an ETA attached to your account, so that potential fraudsters will never have access to your savings.

After starting your ETA, advise your employer so that your salary can be paid directly to the account.

Are there any other benefits of the ETA?

Like your existing account, the ETA provides you with:

  • Discounts from over 200 JN Reward merchants
  • Free access to online banking via JN Bank LIVE
  • 10% discount on JAA membership

How do I set up the account?

You can set up your account in your own time via the ONE JN Passport or visit your nearest JN Bank branch. Download the ONE JN Passport app from the App Store for Apple devices or Google Play Store for Android devices and follow the instructions to set up the app and the account.

Do I need an opening balance?

Like a regular savings account, a starting balance of $2,500 is needed to activate the account. There is no minimum balance once the account has been established.

I already have my card attached to a savings/ chequing account; do I have to get an ETA?

Yes, you do. We encourage all members to start an ETA and link it to their debit card for transactions. As part of our upcoming rollout, an ETA will be automatically created for customers who use their savings account for transactions and do not yet have an ETA. Remember, unlike a chequing account there are no maintenance or monthly fees, so an ETA will certainly be beneficial for your everyday transactions.

Can I transfer money automatically from my ETA to my savings account?

Yes, you certainly can set up automatic transfers to move a portion of your income or remaining funds from your ETA to your regular savings account. This is a great way to build savings habits.

Will I earn interest on my ETA balance?

The ETA is primarily designed for transactions, so it does not earn interest like a regular savings account. For long-term savings and interest-earning potential, we recommend maintaining separate savings or fixed deposit accounts.
